N14 D14

February 10th, 2023

I think it is N14 D14. (It is Friday, Feb. 10, 2023.)

I got my taxes filed. JG and I agreed that I’ll use turbotax and he’ll use an accountant to file. This was a very, very, very complicated tax return on my part.

But it is done.

My body is killing me today. Dave was sick the last two days. But last night he started double dipping on Robittusin DM and Mucinex (spelling is wrong on that). So he slept. I woke up about 3x during the night unable to move my knees or ankes (as my sleeping position was very ackward and those parts of my body fell asleep). I also had to pee 3x. And Brook (our cat) jumped up on me to give me to ask for pets and affection 3x. (I think “cranky bitch” described my mood today.)

We went to the YMCA. I could barely work out. We got free food from an outreach at Safeway (chicken curry). I went nuts. I guess the one good thing about being homeless is that my salt addiction is GONE.

There is supposed to be very terrible storms tonight and tomorrow. bleeehhhh …. At least tomorrow is laundry day. (Wednesday and Saturdays are our laundry days.)

hmmm … what else? …..

I got a call back from Wendy’s. So more than likely I’ll start that job in the next two weeks. It is NOT a lot of income, but it will allow us to live still at the parking lot in the church until we can move into an apartment complex. Even working there just twenty hours a week, will put our income above the 50k mark — meaning that we will qualify for any one bedroon apartment. That Wendy’s is also located about 200 yards from our sleep spot.

Dave will not move to the Waikiki area at all. I started talking with the other homeless who also live in the same area as us. One man, Jr …. stated that Waikiki is safe for a woman if you do NOT go out of your apartment at night. Any job I work will require me to exit or enter my apartment in the dark. But Waikiki is very dangerous according to the local people that are houseless. There is a LOT of gang activity there, drug dealing and umm … shootings.

I.e. If you are coming to visit me ever, do NOT stay in Waikiki.

N9 and D9

February 5th, 2023

So … this last week was a lesson in learning how / where to sleep. I kept fighting sleeping in the front. The back is very tight, but I can roll over on my side. I have slept on my side for as long as I can remember. I cannot sleep on my back. So now, we are moving items from the backseat to the front seat in the evenings. And on N8, I finally started sleeping longer than 3 hours a night. (Which means I still feel exhausted as my body is catching up on rest.)

On Day 7, we were contacted by Dave’s friend — Jerry C — asking how IHS had helped us. Dave kinda laid into him that we have had 6 contacts, but no one has done an intake on us. Jerry sat there quiet. We gave him the names of the people that we had contacted but had no real contact back. Jerry called IHS. I am guessing that a former interim director calling and going, “Umm. What are you doing?” is why we had contact from a Case Manager who met with us within an hour of Jerry calling. She put us on two emergency housing lists that accept pets. There are like 6 shelters, but only 2 accept pets.

Speaking of pets: Brook is doing great. She is pooping and peeing in her litter box. She literally is a night-only active cat. She’ll get up when we are driving and just be like “rub me.” But then she’ll go hide underneath the driver’s side seat where we made a cave with a soft carpet to lay upon. She also is not TRYING to escape the car — which is so good.

… I had three job interviews this week. I should find out Monday. If I get any job, it income qualifies us for pretty much every single bedroom apartment. Dave’s SSI income starts on Feb. 8th. (In fact, we’ll accrue almost 3k that week — most of it will go into saving for a place to live.)

Oh … Dave and I are working out at the YMCA about 4x this last week. I went to stretch my knee last night, and my knee, briefly, popped out of joint. It popped in a few seconds later. Today, it is extremely tender to the touch.

I miss you all.

Day 3 (Monday) D3

January 30th, 2023

Today we we shocked people were on site when I woke up at 6 AM. We thought no one was there until 7:30 AM. All well. We moved and slept until 8:30 AM. (We heard these people are only here Monday through Wednesday.) Then we went to the YMCA and worked out. When showering I discovered that female nudity in the locker room was very normal.

Then we got some food from Safeway. And hung out at the beach. When it was not raining, we quickly vacuumed out the car (cat was safe in her carrier).

I got told I did not get the administrative assistant job, but that job was in a BAD area in Honolulu. I did get invited to a panel interview for the job I really want (resident assistant) … they get to live for free on the property. This is the job I really need.

I am very tired.

Day 2 … Night 3 (D2 and N3)

January 30th, 2023

Well … Sunday. I probably slept as much as Dave through church service. The church had its membership meeting afterwards. Dave is a member. The church had tried an imu the night before, but the weather was so bad the members decided to crook pot. So Sunday, I had two HUGE servings of imu and great coffee. (Then, I had my first bowl movement in 3 days.)

We left the meeting early because the YMCA closes early on Sunday– gotta get that shower.

Then we went and did a load of laundry. It was raining sideways through most of it … as mother would say: raining kitty cats amd doggies.

Afterwards, I took Dave to like a Longs. There I found the best travel shampoo containers. This let us add smaller amounts to the YMCA bags and store the bigger products in the drawers.

Living out of the car seems to be 90% prep.

night: I wake up whenever the cats poops. Twice so far tonight. I simply chuck her fecal matter as far as possible away from the vehicle with the litter scoop. But we have had NO ISSUES with her not using the litter box. She was not using one at all in the place where we temporarily re-homed her.

I have only had to pee once tonight so far. Far better than 5 last night.

…. Today, we move the car at 6AM and then … I told Dave… we are going to sleep more before the YMCA. Sleep seems to be our biggest need right now. We are getting it in spurts of a few hours.

Night 2 (N2)

January 29th, 2023

So far, so good.

My fever that was earlier broke when I slept for 5 hours. Dave said I slept through fireworks.

Brook (the cat) used her litter box to poop and pee. I am thrilled. I was worried because she was trying to lay in it beforehand.

So far … she hasn’t tried to escape. I’m gonna do something crazy like try to leash and harness train her while she is in the car. ….. hahahaaaaa

I snore. Loudly …

…. oh, I am on Dave’s cell phone plan now (same cell phone number). It has unlimited data.

And I know how to get into the bathroom. Phew …
